Helical Anchors for the Utility Industry

American Made Movie

clock July 29, 2013 05:48 by author Administrator

On August 30th, 2013 a compelling new documentary explores the impact of American manufacturing on both ordinary citizens and the national economy.  Through the stories of innovative entrepreneurs and  businesses who are making things in the USA while successfully competing in the global economy, the American Made Movie examines both the positive ripple effect that comes from domestic manufacturing jobs and the hurdles we'll need to overcome to start bringing them back while asking business owners and consumers alike one simple question: what is your part?

American manufacturing employment has been on the decline for decades, unleashing a devastating effect on our local and national economies. But it’s the stories of communities and the families that comprise them that reveal the harshest costs upon the nation.

As employers struggle to compete in the global economy, the debates regarding unemployment, debt ceilings and the trade deficit rages on in our nation’s capital. To many Americans, it feels like there is no one fighting for American jobs–especially the jobs in manufacturing.

Fortunately, people are making a difference by doing their part in their local communities. These individual efforts combine to ultimately impact the national economy.

It has been said that the greatest thing America makes is Americans. The ability of average Americans to adapt, innovate and thrive has created one of the greatest civilizations in human history.

By illustrating the successes of companies that have prospered without adopting the practices of their competitors, American Made Movie shows the positive impact of domestic manufacturing jobs on national and local economies in the face of great challenges.

Earth Contact Products urges you to see this movie and take its lessons to heart. ECP is a company that bucks the trend to source material and labor from offshore, we take pride in the fact that we employ Americans. ECP manufacturers helical ground anchors, push pier and wall tieback systems using only USA made steel, USA labor and USA technology, while  it can be a struggle competing with those who do not share our American Made philosophy – it is the right thing to do!

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), an association dedicated to advancing innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity, is the world’s largest technical professional society. It is designed to serve professionals involved in all aspects of the electrical, electronic and computing fields and related areas of science and technology that underlie modern civilization.

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE's highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE’s roots, however, go back to 1884 when electricity was just beginning to become a major force in society. There was one major established electrical industry, the telegraph, which—beginning in the 1840s—had come to connect the world with a communications system faster than the speed of transportation. A second major area had only barely gotten underway—electric power and light, originating in Thomas Edison’s inventions and his pioneering Pearl Street Station in New York. By 2010, IEEE had over 395,000 members in 160 countries. Through its worldwide network of geographical units, publications, web services, and conferences, IEEE remains the world's largest technical professional association.

Made in USA and ECP Utility

ECP Utility is proud to display the Made in USA label.

Made in USA is very important to ECP Utility (A division of Earth Contact Products). We are very proud to proclaim that our manufactured products are Made in the USA with steel and workers that are all American. As a manufacturer that supplies the majority of our products to USA corporations and companies we take this responsibility very seriously and are proud to do so, especially when so many seek cheap foreign products with no regard  to quality or consistency.

As the US economy continues to struggle ECP has seen others attempt to deceive with various claims of product origin. To us, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), it is fairly simple. Use raw materials that are Made in USA, employ USA workers and technology to manufacture the final product and display the Made in USA label.

The following is from - The FTC is charged with preventing deception and unfairness in the marketplace. The FTC Act gives the Commission the power to bring law enforcement actions against false or misleading claims that a product is of U.S. origin. Traditionally, the Commission has required that a product advertised as Made in USA be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S. After a comprehensive review of Made in USA and other U.S. origin claims in product advertising and labeling, the Commission announced in December 1997 that it would retain the "all or virtually all" standard. The Commission also issued an Enforcement Policy Statement on U.S. Origin Claims to provide guidance to marketers who want to make an unqualified Made in USA claim under the "all or virtually all" standard and those who want to make a qualified Made in USA claim.

ECP Utility is the only anchor supplier for the electric utility industry that can proudly display the Made in USA label on all of its anchors and poleline hardware products. From power installed anchors to rock, no wrench and square bar anchors, ECP Utility not only has a full line of anchoring products but also the technical and practical support for everyone from linemen, engineers and electric utility companies. USA made anchors is our primary business, contact ECP Utility at 800-325-9375 or at

Going Green with Electricity

clock June 15, 2011 12:08 by author Administrator
ECP Utility prides itself on using resources wisely and eliminating waste as a service to our neighbors. The use of recycled steel has made ECP Utility an ECO-Friendly company that is dedicated to not wasting energy.

Today we are constantly being bombarded with information about going green. From recycling to solar and wind power we have an opportunity to become more “Green” without major inconveniences. We can buy materials that have been recycled, we can use biodegradable products and we can even shut off power using devices that are not currently in use. The best ways to become more “Green” is to be informed of what is available and decide which items best fit into each persons lifestyle. ECP Utility is a company that cares and wants to share information with others.

Wireless Energy Sensing Technology

So you don't have a smart meter, but you don't want to deal with a home energy monitoring system that has a complicated installation process. It's a quandary that many energy-conscious consumers have to deal with, and one that Intel thinks it can solve with the Intel Labs Wireless Energy Sensing Technology (WEST), a simple plug-in device that keeps track of the energy use of all the devices in your home. WEST works by observing the unique power line signatures of different gadgets (i.e. a fridge or a dishwasher) and matching those signatures to a database so it can tell when devices have been turned on or off. Once set up, WEST establishes a wireless link to a home network so that users can keep track of energy data on their smartphones, laptops, and TVs. WEST is currently undergoing in-home trials.

Eco-Sense Buildings

Between 30 and 60% of all power in an average commercial building is used by gadgets that are plugged into outlets (i.e. laptops, phones, lamps, etc.), but most building management systems only keep track of power consumed by HVAC systems. Intel's Eco-Sense Buildings project "breaks down the wall between IT and building management," according to Milan Milenkovic, a researcher at Intel Labs. The project uses sensors to collect data about the power use of pluggable loads in a building, and sends that information to the IT backbone and building management system for analysis. Ultimately, Intel imagines that this information could be used to create personal energy use dashboards (pictured), so that users can see exactly how much energy their work computer, printer, and other plugged-in devices are using--and how they might cut down on power consumption.

Recycled Steel

At ECP Utility we are working every day to find and offer products that will help customers make ''going green'' easier while still being cost effective. As a result, from the founding of our company in 1998, we committed our company and resources to offering more eco-conscious steel products and to make these items available at prices that make the choice an easy one. We continue to actively seek out green products and procedures that meet our high quality standards.

Our commitment to reducing our footprint on the planet does not end with simply selling more eco-conscious products. We also looked closely at both our personal and business practices and committed ourselves to operating as a green business by following the standard of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

You may not know it, but steel is the world's most recycled material. Each year more than 60 million tons of steel is recycled, more than double the amount of all other materials combined, including paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, and other metals.

Recycling steel saves energy and natural resources. In a year, the steel industry saves the equivalent energy to power about 18 million households for a year. When one ton of steel is recycled, 2500 pounds of iron ore, 1400 pounds of coal and 120 pounds of limestone are conserved. By making recycling integral to steelmaking, the steel industry leads the buy recycled effort. Each year, more than 62% of the steel the domestic industry produces is recycled.

When it comes to being ecologically responsible, demand that your guy anchoring and pole line hardware products are made by Earth Contact Products, a company that cares.

Earth Contact Products Receives RUS Approval for Guy Screw Anchors

clock April 15, 2011 20:21 by author Administrator
ECP guy anchors approved by Rural Utility Service

Olathe, KS -- April 15, 2011 – Helical guy anchor manufacturer, ECP receives approval from the Rural Utility Service for guy wire anchors. With more than 60 years of experience, the USDA Rural Development Electric Programs have found that electric utility construction, operation, and maintenance are best when high-quality, long-lasting materials are used.

“The RUS testing and approval process was two of the steps that we have taken at ECP Utility to gain acceptance among electric utility companies around the country” said Jeff Tully, President and GM of Earth Contact Products. He then added “This (RUS approvals) along with our in house testing program and NEETRAC testing has made ECP Utility an important factor in the utility anchoring  and pole line hardware business”. Because the quality of materials is so important to program objectives, the Electric Programs continue to require that borrowers observe Electric Programs standards and use Technical Standards Committee “A” (Electric) accepted products on their systems whether they use RUS loan funds, other sources of financing assistance, or their own general funds.

ECP Utility provided testing results for guy screw anchors that were monitored and approved by an independent, RUS approved, professional engineering firm. These test results were then submitted to the RUS board for their final approval, which came on 4/12/2011. The rigorous testing requirements determine anchor capacity in various soils under various loading conditions. ECP’s guy anchors now can be used on all RUS funded projects by cooperative and municipalities across the country.

ECP Utility has a full line of electric utility anchoring products including square bar guy anchors, power installed anchors, round shaft tower anchors, solar foundation anchors, expanding anchors, no-wrench anchors and pole line hardware. This product mix is in addition to the civil construction ground anchoring products and foundation repair products offered by ECP.
